Synthetic resins which can be converted to thermosetting plastics with a hardener are called Epoxy resins (EP resins). The epoxy resins themselves are polyethers with usually two terminal epoxide groups. The curing agents are reactants and form the macromolecular plastic with the resin. Thermosetting in this context means that the resulting workpieces remain dimensionally stable up to a certain temperature limit. In contrast, thermoplastic materials which can be deformed again and again in molten state under heat, as long as a decomposition of the original material does not occur by overheating.

The thermosets produced with epoxy resins have excellent mechanical properties as well as a temperature and chemical resistance that is superior to thermoplastics (which can be influenced in our individual bto-epoxy systems). In addition, the epoxy resins offer many advantages in terms of their processing. Thanks to its liquid form, epoxy can be used universally, for example by casting of components for their protection (for example LEDs, circuit boards) or by casting into molded parts but also as coating, impregnation, laminates, surface sealing, stoving enamel or as adhesive. Many associate epoxy resins primarily with their processing capability for fiber composites (fiberglass, carbon fiber, etc.) by lamination or vacuum or resin infusion process, where this material plays one of its other strengths. Epoxy is transparent, even crystal clear and odorless!

Our epoxy resin systems are 100% solvent-free and free of phenolic accelerators. We also do not process amines (hardeners) or auxiliaries classified as hazardous or toxic. Bto-epoxy ltd.’s epoxy resins can therefore be used without risk for the health of the person processing it and are therefore often used as a “healthy” alternative to polyester resins.
